Finally the weekend! Well, kind of. I’m on call for work this weekend and have been watching all our east coast sites go up and down thanks to Hurricane Irene. I feel for everyone affected by it and do not miss those days when we were living in Central Florida. In 2004, we got hit with 3 hurricanes in 6 weeks – evacuations, gas shortages, days without power and AC in the hottest and muggiest months, food shortages, house damage, family vacations ruined, and bad hair days. But the worst for me was the week or so prior to the storm hitting. Life was on hold until we know if we were gonna get hit or not, lots of stress preparing for a evacuation and getting the house ready for possibly no reason if the storm missed us. Not fun and my thoughts are with anyone in this things damage path.
Thankfully things are settling for me, I’m feeling much better after a week from hell. I actually slept in until 9 AM this morning which is crazy for me! Then hubby and I had a leisurely morning of drinking coffee and relaxing, I was grateful not to have any plans today. We did make it to Costco to load up and my fresh produce has been restocked.
Yes, I’ll probably make both those watermelons disappear this week. :-) So nice to have beautiful and fresh produce as the centerpiece of the kitchen, feels to vibrant and alive.
Another task I attempted to tackle was brushing my dogs teeth using a new kit I picked up at Target.
Seems simple enough, right?
Because my chihuahua has such a tiny mouth, I went with the finger brush.
And plunked her on the counter to get the brushing party started. Not a good sign that she was already terrified at the sight of the brush.
I got about a quarter of the job done before she wised up and refused to open her mouth. So I relocated her to the kitchen sink in case things got messy of the second attempt.
And they did, she still refused to open her mouth and just violently shook when she wasn’t trying to jump to freedom. I gave up on the project for the day, but she hasn’t seen the last of her doggy toothbrush.
Keeping with the relaxed pace of the day, I went with a super simple, snack-style dinner trying the guacamole recipe from Mimi Kirk’s Live Raw.
It’s very simple only containing 5 ingredients to be smashed up in a bowl – no dirtying the Vita-Mix or food processor tonight.
And it was simple and fast to mix with a fork.
I enjoyed it with blue corn chips, veggie sticks, and hemp seed sour cream.
The guacamole was very good for being so simple, fresh tasting with a little tang. But not overly spicy, in fact I wouldn’t have minded more heat and will probably add a little hot sauce or jalapeno next time.
And maybe one or two glasses of wine with frozen grapes were consumed with it. Now it’s time to catch up with House Hunters International and a stupid comedy movie. What’s your favorite comedy movie to relax with after a stressful week?

Good and good. Happy for you!
Hemp seed sour cream….mmmm, good! And the guac, nice.
Glad you got some sleep, too. That always helps outlooks. so does wine and frozen grapes. Just posted about frozen fruit!
And brushing your dog’s teeth…we used to do that with our papillons. Never went over too well. ha!

WOW! Your guac looks so good! I’m juice fasting this week and literally wanted to crawl through the screen an indulge! Your plating was beautious! Then you talked about the wine and frozen grapes…ugh! Something to look forward to right? :-) You can bet I’ll be making some when I break my fast. Your chihuahua is adorable! Good luck with the teeth brushing. Enjoy the rest of your restful weekend!

That’s awesome on the juice fast, I’ve been debating trying one. Thanks on the teeth brushing, I need to get hubby involved on the next attempt. :-)
