This has not been an easy summer for us, my job has been crazy with things picking up and we’ve been working aggressively to save money to meet a mortgage goal. For the last year, it’s been tough sticking to a tight budget while watching family take fun summer vacations, I’ve even been jealous of my sisters’ summer vacations to Disney with young kids! But I’m happy to announce that the goal has been met! And what a relief! To celebrate hubby and I took mini getaway to San Francisco to stay in a nice hotel and enjoy some fabulous eats and sights. For our first night in the city, we had to go to a place I’ve been anxious to try for years now, Millennium!
I’ve read so many amazing reviews of this place on blogs and Yelp, but have not had a chance to go until now – a true crime for a vegan that lives nearby! I knew it wasn’t going to be cheap, so it seemed like a perfect reward for meeting a big financial goal. Going all out, we starting by sharing a bottle of wine while browsing the menu.
And taking in the classic and classy dining area.
The service was amazing, hubby accidentally knocked his knife off the table while going through the menu and before he could pick it up, our waiter arrived with a fresh one. And with this beautiful bread plate with a white bean spread that reminded me of a cross between hummus and a savory miso spread, very good.
We started by sharing a delightful little cool quinoa and avocado salad piled with jicama, radishes, greens and surrounded with a tangy, creamy sauce. It disappeared fast.
My main course was a pastry “purse” surround by creamy, fresh, sweet, and crunchy cold slaw and a hot, savory, curry tomato sauce that was a great combo.
Inside the crunchy pasty “purse” was a sweet corn mixture that went beautifully well with the sauces. And the presentation of this dish really looked amazing with so much creative effort.
Hubby got a gorgeous mushroom polenta cake in a savory bean sauce with bright and colorful veggies on the side.
Since we were going all out, we had to get dessert – right? And I just couldn’t resist the chocolate salt cake – a rich, dark cake with a creamy dark chocolate filling, crispy edges, and smothered with a sweet berry sauce.
The salty flavors were a pleasant surprise with the sweet sauce and rich filling, very unusual, daring, and fun.
Hubby got the sweet, fried cornbread that was also amazing.
He finished the meal with a cappuccino that was also a work of art.
My first experience at Millennium did not disappoint, the creative and unique flavor pairings made for a fabulous and inspiring dining experience, especially for a food blogger. The meal felt more like a celebration of plant based cuisine and the veggie-themed art around the dining area enhanced that celebration. It wasn’t cheap, but totally worth it and a place I’ll be coming back to soon!

Glad you got a great meal! I should go back soon, it’s hard to fit it in, even if it’s not too far away.
Amazing place, huh? I haven’t been in ages but I still remember the meal being amazing. Glad you enjoyed yourself a little. I know it’s very hard to watch everyone have fun when you can’t.
Wow, all looks delicious! I have never been to Millenium but am hoping we can get down to SF and try it out later this year-fingers crossed.
so glad you got to get away and enjoy! i know you have been saving money and cutting back for so long. when i lived in reno getting to san fran for the weekend was awesome!
Thanks, so glad to finally have met that goal and start saving more money. And after this trip, maybe start saving to move to the city one day! :-)
